Finding the Serial Number on a 1500

To retrieve the correct radio code, you first need the radio serial number.

Depending on your radio model, you can see it on the screen or check the radio hardware.

Common abbreviations are: S/N / SN / Serial / Serial Num. / Serial Number.

These are the easiest ways to locate it:

1. View the Serial Number on Ram 1500's Display

If you've ever had to disconnect the battery on your Ram 1500 — whether for a lift kit install, a winch, or a dead battery — you already know why the radio code matters. The good news: 2013+ trucks with Uconnect can show the serial number right on the screen without removing anything.

2013–2018 — Uconnect 8.4" Classic

Hold Fan Up + Fan Down + Front Defrost for 5 seconds → Dealer Mode.

OR: hold Temp Up + Temp Down for 5 seconds → Engineering Menu.

Navigate: System InfoRadio Part InfoSerial Number.

2019+ — Uconnect 8.4" NEW & 12" Screen

Press the bottom-left + bottom-right edges of the plastic bezel frame simultaneously and hold until Dealer Mode opens.

The 12" screen uses the same bezel-edge method — press the plastic frame border, not the glass. Navigate: System InfoRadio Part InfoSerial Number.

Pre-2013: Earlier Ram 1500 trucks used a non-Uconnect radio without Dealer Mode. The serial label is on the radio chassis and requires physical removal. Serial format: 14 characters, e.g. T00AM394958584.

2. The Serial Number on the Radio Sticker

The serial number is usually located on a sticker attached to the radio casing.

Step 1: Turn off the car.

Step 2: After that, take off the surrounding panel.

Step 3: Then release the mounting clips.

Step 4: Carefully slide the unit out partially (Be careful not to damage the connections).

Step 5: Search for the serial on the rear of the unit.

Step 6: Write down the full S/N carefully and come back here so that we can generate your code.

Important: Be careful not to mix the Serial Number for the Part Number!

Physical Radio Removal for Ram 1500

If the on-screen Dealer Mode method is unavailable, the radio can be removed to access the serial number label on the unit:

  1. Remove the center console trim – Gently remove the dashboard trim using a plastic trim tool. On Ram 1500, the trim panel runs vertically down the center stack.
  2. Disconnect any switch harnesses – Unplug the seat heater or other switch connectors attached to the trim panel before fully removing it.
  3. Remove radio mounting screws – Typically 4 screws (7mm or Torx) securing the radio to the dash frame.
  4. Pull the unit forward – Slide the radio out just enough to see the serial number label on the top or side. Do not fully disconnect wiring unless necessary.
  5. Photograph the label – Take a clear photo of the serial number before reinstalling.

Usual Serial Formats on Ram 1500 Units

The radio uses serials starting with T00AM (14 chars), TM9, or A2C (newer Uconnect). The serial label is on the body of the radio unit.

Common Ram 1500 Radio Code Problems

Many owners encounter radio lock problems on their 1500 after electrical work.

Below are the most typical situations when this can occur.

Battery Disconnect Triggering the Radio Lock

When the battery is disconnected, the Ram 1500 radio requests a security code.

This factory protection system is designed to prevent theft by disabling the radio after power loss.

More Scenarios That Can Lock Your 1500's Radio

  • If a power circuit is interrupted, the radio can lock itself.
  • After a software update, electrical repair, or an ECU reset, some Ram 1500 radios display a CODE message.
  • When the head unit is replaced, it usually locks automatically.
  • After a boost start, the radio may reset and request a radio code.

Before Paying for Help

There is a chance your Ram 1500 radio code is already somewhere in your car.

Before using a paid service, take a few minutes check the places below - it costs nothing to look.

Check the Car Documents

  1. In your car paperwork from the previous owner.
  2. In the boot compartment, on a radio label.
  3. In the owner's manual, often on a sticker page.
  4. On the head unit itself, if it was serviced earlier.
  5. Inside the center console, sometimes on a label.

Can a Dealer Retrieve It?

Dealerships can retrieve your radio code by checking the vehicle records in their system.

They typically ask for registration and ID before sharing the unlock code.

This is the official way to restore access to the factory radio.

Things to Consider:

  • You may need to visit the dealer during business hours.
  • Dealers frequently bill for the code (sometimes more than 100$).
  • Some imported or older radios may not be in their database.
  • The lookup is often slower and may require waiting.

How to Enter the Anti-Theft Code on Your 1500

With your code ready, it's time to input it into the Ram 1500's radio.

The locked radio will usually show an "ENTER CODE" message.

Use the built-in buttons or touch controls to dial in each digit, then press OK to unlock the stereo.

Once you have your 4-digit unlock code, here's how to enter it on your Ram 1500:

  1. Turn the ignition to ON or ACC.
  2. The screen displays "ENTER CODE" or four dashes (----).
  3. Touchscreen models (Uconnect 8.4"/12"): Use the on-screen numeric keypad to tap each digit.
  4. Older models with physical buttons: Use preset buttons 1–4, pressing each button to cycle to the correct digit.
  5. The radio will unlock after the 4th digit — no confirmation press required on most models.

Lockout Warning: 3 incorrect attempts triggers a 60-minute lockout. Keep the ignition in the ON position throughout the wait — turning it off resets the timer.

Lockout Warning: Uconnect radios permit 3 incorrect code attempts before entering a timed lockout. During lockout, the screen may display "WAIT" or go blank. You need to leave the ignition in the ON position for approximately 60 minutes to clear the lockout. Do not turn off the ignition during the lockout period, as this will restart the timer. After the lockout period, you get 3 more attempts.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ram 1500 Unlock Code

Free are not easy to find.

Some manuals may help, but most codes require a database lookup.

The only free way would be to check your vehicle and its glovebox to see if you already have the code.

Many factory radios use a anti-theft code, but not all production years require one.

Whether a code is needed varies by the factory stereo and the production year.

Yes. Each radio unit has its own security code.

If you install a replacement radio, you'll need the code for that particular device.

Uconnect is the infotainment system manufactured by Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and used across Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo vehicles. Most Uconnect radios include an anti-theft protection system that activates whenever the radio loses power – for example after a battery replacement, a dead battery, or electrical work.

When triggered, the radio displays "ENTER CODE" and will not function until the correct 4-digit unlock code is entered. The code is linked to the radio's serial number, not the vehicle's VIN, which is why finding the serial number is the first step to unlocking.

Yes, for most vehicles. Uconnect systems from 2013 onwards feature a hidden Dealer Mode (or Engineering Mode) diagnostic menu that shows the serial number right on the display. You can access it by holding specific button combinations – no tools or radio removal required.

However, some 2020+ models may have had Dealer Mode disabled via software updates. If you cannot access the on-screen menu, the radio must be physically removed to read the serial number label on the unit. See our full Dealer Mode guide for step-by-step instructions with video tutorials.

Yes. The 12-inch Uconnect display found in newer Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks still uses the same anti-theft protection system. If the battery is disconnected or replaced, the radio will lock and require a 4-digit unlock code.

To access Dealer Mode on the 12-inch screen, press the bottom-left and bottom-right edges of the physical screen bezel simultaneously. Navigate to System Info → Radio Part Info to find the serial number.
