Jeep Patriot's Usual Unlock Code Causes

Your radio may enter anti-theft mode when it detects a power interruption.

These are the some well-known scenarios that activate the radio code prompt.

After a Battery Work

When the battery is replaced, the Jeep Patriot radio enters anti-theft mode.

This factory protection system is designed to prevent theft by disabling the radio after power loss.

Other Cases When The Radio May Ask for a PIN

  • When the head unit is replaced, it usually locks automatically.
  • After a jump-start, the radio may lose power and request a security code.
  • If a fuse is pulled, the radio can lock itself.
  • After an ECU reset, software update, or electrical repair, some Jeep Patriot radios display a CODE message.

What is a Patriot Radio Code?

When the radio is disconnected from power, it automatically locks and requires a security code to be entered before it can be used again.

A radio unlock code (also known as an anti-theft code) is a security feature integrated into factory car stereos to protect theft.

This system ensures that a removed radio becomes inoperable without the original code.

Entering the correct code restores full audio and infotainment functionality.

Places to Check Before Buying a Radio Code

There is a chance your Jeep Patriot radio code is written down in your documents.

Before spending money, quickly check the places below - you might be surprised.

Check Inside the Dashboard Area

  1. In the radio manual, often on a separate page.
  2. On a sticker in the door pillar.
  3. On the head unit casing if the unit was previously removed.
  4. In the service booklet provided with the car.
  5. Near the trunk lining, where some manufacturers place radio labels.

Requesting It from the Dealer

Dealerships can generate your radio code by checking the VIN in their system.

They typically require proof of ownership before sharing the unlock code.

This is the official way to restore access to the factory radio.

Potential Downsides:

  • You may need to contact service support during business hours.
  • The lookup is often slower and may require waiting.
  • Some imported or older radios may need extra verification.
  • Dealers frequently bill for the code (sometimes more than 100$).

Where to Search for the Serial Number on a Patriot

The only thing you'll need to find the corresponding code is your radio's radio serial. No extra vehicle data is required.

On many Jeep models, you can find it in one of the following locations:

  • Displayed on the radio screen (occasionally by using a key combination)
  • On the radio housing itself - you'll need to pull it out and write down the serial number (which is fairly easy)

Search for a label such as: Serial Number or SN.

1. How to See the Serial Number on the Patriot Screen

Most Uconnect-equipped vehicles can display the radio serial number directly on the screen using a hidden diagnostic menu called Dealer Mode (also known as Engineering Mode). This means you can obtain the serial number without removing the radio from the dashboard.

Uconnect 8.4" Classic (2013–2018)

Method 1 – Climate Controls:

  1. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON (engine off).
  2. Simultaneously hold the Up, Down, and Front Defrost climate buttons for 5 seconds.
  3. The Dealer Mode menu appears on screen.
  4. Navigate to: System InfoRadio Part InfoSerial Number.

Method 2 – Temperature Buttons:

  1. Hold the Temperature Up (red) and Temperature Down (blue) buttons together for 5 seconds.
  2. The Engineering Menu appears.
  3. Navigate to: System InfoRadio Part InfoSerial Number.

Uconnect 8.4" NEW (2019+) & 12-inch

  1. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON.
  2. Press the bottom-left and bottom-right edges of the physical screen bezel simultaneously until Dealer Mode appears.
  3. Navigate to: System InfoRadio Part InfoSerial Number.

Important Press the physical bezel edges, not the touchscreen surface.

Uconnect 7" (e.g. Jeep Compass)

  1. Hold the Temperature Up and Temperature Down buttons for 5 seconds.
  2. The Engineering Menu appears.
  3. Navigate to: System InfoTarget Main DataSerial Number.
Note: Some 2020+ models may have Dealer Mode disabled after a software update. If none of the above methods work, the radio must be physically removed to view the serial number label on the unit. See our full Uconnect Dealer Mode guide with video tutorials, or our Uconnect radio removal guide for step-by-step instructions.

2. Locating the Serial on the Radio Body

The serial number is usually located on a label attached to the head unit.

Step 1: Turn off the vehicle.

Step 2: After that, take off the surrounding panel.

Step 3: Then release the mounting clips.

Step 4: Carefully slide the unit out partially (Be careful not to damage the connections).

Step 5: Search for the serial on the side of the unit.

Step 6: Write down the full S/N carefully and come back to our website so that we can generate the code.

Important: Don't mix the Serial Number and the Part Number!

Physical Radio Removal (if Dealer Mode is unavailable)

If the on-screen method is not available on your vehicle, the radio can be physically removed to view the serial number label on the top, side, or back of the unit:

  1. Remove the trim bezel – Carefully pry off the dashboard trim surrounding the radio using a plastic trim removal tool. The bezel is held by friction clips.
  2. Unscrew the mounting bolts – Remove the 4 mounting screws (usually Torx or Phillips) securing the radio to the dash frame.
  3. Slide the unit forward – Gently pull the radio out far enough to see the label. Do not disconnect the wiring harness unless necessary.
  4. Locate the serial number label – Locate a white or silver sticker with a barcode on the top or side of the unit. The serial number is a 14-character alphanumeric code (e.g. T00AM394958584).

For detailed instructions with video tutorials for specific vehicles, see our Uconnect radio removal guide.

Entering the Radio Code on Your Vehicle

You need to enter the anti-theft code into the system to unlock your Jeep's radio.

When the unit is locked, the screen usually shows a code prompt.

Based on the radio, use control knob, touchscreen, or radio presets to enter the numbers, then confirm the code to restore radio functionality.

To enter the unlock code on your Uconnect radio:

  1. When the radio is locked, the screen will display "ENTER CODE" or show four dashes (----).
  2. Use the on-screen keypad (touchscreen models) or the preset buttons (non-touchscreen models) to enter each digit of your 4-digit code.
  3. After entering all 4 digits, the radio unlocks automatically – no need to press a confirm button.

Tip: Ensure you enter the code carefully. Three incorrect attempts will trigger a temporary lockout.

Lockout Warning: Uconnect radios allow 3 incorrect code attempts before triggering a lockout timer. During lockout, the screen may display "WAIT" or go blank. You must leave the ignition in the ON position for approximately 60 minutes to reset the attempt counter. Do not turn off the ignition during the lockout period, as this will restart the timer. After the lockout period, you get 3 more attempts.

Jeep Patriot Radio Code - Common Questions

Yes. Each car stereo has its own security code.

If you install a replacement radio, you'll need the code for that particular device.

Many OEM stereos use a security code, but not every model year require one.

Whether a code is needed is determined by the radio unit and the vehicle generation.

Free are not easy to find.

Some dealers may help, but most codes require a database lookup.

The only no-cost option would be to check your car and its glovebox to see if you already have the code.

Uconnect is the infotainment system developed by Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and used across Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo vehicles. Most Uconnect radios include an anti-theft protection system that activates whenever the radio loses power – for example after a battery replacement, a dead battery, or electrical work.

When triggered, the radio displays "ENTER CODE" and will not function until the correct 4-digit unlock code is entered. The code is linked to the radio's serial number, not the vehicle's VIN, which is why finding the serial number is the first step to unlocking.

Yes, in most cases. Uconnect systems from 2013 onwards include a hidden Dealer Mode (or Engineering Mode) diagnostic menu that shows the serial number right on the display. You can access it by holding specific button combinations – no tools or radio removal required.

However, some 2020+ models may have had Dealer Mode restricted via software updates. If you can't reach the on-screen menu, the radio must be physically removed to read the serial number label on the unit. See our full Dealer Mode guide for step-by-step instructions with video tutorials.

Yes. The Wrangler JK (2007–2018) uses older Uconnect models (430/430N/730N) with physical preset buttons, while the Wrangler JL (2018+) uses the newer Uconnect 4C with an 8.4" or 7" touchscreen. Both generations require a radio code after power loss, but the method for accessing Dealer Mode is different.

For the JK, use the climate control button method. For the JL, try the screen bezel edge method (8.4") or the temperature button method (7"). See our Uconnect Dealer Mode guide for specific instructions.
