Can't Find Your Unit's S/N? Follow These Steps for Honda Fit 2019
The first step is locating the radio serial.
Many people assume the code depends on the Honda model or year, but actually, the unlock process relies on the unique radio's serial number.
This number identifies the exact head unit installed in your Honda Fit.
This is even better, because if you have bought a used radio, the VIN or other Honda-specific data wouldn't help.
Depending on the radio version used, you can see the serial directly from the screen or by looking at the label on the radio chassis.
2019 Honda Fit factory radios
- 5-inch color LCD audio (LX) - basic 160-watt AM/FM/CD system, four speakers, hard buttons, single front USB, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink. Non-touch display; no HondaLink, no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- 7-inch Display Audio with HondaLink (Sport, EX, EX-L) - 180-watt 6-speaker system, electrostatic capacitive touchscreen, HondaLink connected services, dual USB, Pandora compatibility on Sport and above, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via wired USB.
As with every 3rd gen Fit GK in North America, factory navigation was never offered - users relied on CarPlay/Android Auto or HondaLink for routing. Each head unit demands a 5-digit Honda anti-theft code whenever it loses power.
Before Removing the Radio, Try This Screen Method
Try the following for your 2019 Honda Fit:
The 2019 Honda Fit could have Honda's Display Audio system (8" depending on trim) or a base non-touchscreen radio. Either type support serial number display via the 1+6 button method:
- Turn ignition to ON. Wait for the radio to boot. The screen shows "CODE" if locked.
- Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 for 3-5 seconds.
- The serial number displays in two halves (e.g.,
U3210+L0482).
Also: On 2019 Fit with the Display Audio touchscreen, navigate to Settings → System → Device Information – the serial may be listed there without needing the button combination.
Serial Number on the Unit
If the serial number cannot be accessed on-screen, use the hardware method.
Most Honda Fit OEM radios include a label with the serial number printed on the casing.
Step-by-Step Approach:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Remove the bezel surrounding the radio.
- Release the clips.
- Slide the unit forward to access the label.
The serial number is usually located near the barcode.
If neither methods succeed on the 2019 Honda Fit:
- Power down the vehicle.
- Detach the center stack trim panel. The 2019 Fit's integrated dashboard uses snap-fit clips.
- For Display Audio models: Unscrew the mounting screws (Phillips-head) securing the display module.
- On base trims: Unscrew the 4 Phillips screws holding the head unit.
- Pull the unit out and find the serial on the sticker on the chassis.
Note: The Display Audio unit is larger and more tightly fitted than the base radio. Be careful when extracting it.
Removing the head unit on a 2019 Honda Fit
Safety first. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait a few minutes for the SRS (airbag) capacitors to discharge before reaching into the dash. The disconnect itself is what triggers the radio's anti-theft lock, so only remove the audio unit if you have a physical reason to - the 1+6 on-screen method below recovers the serial without any disassembly.
- Open the upper dashboard storage lid to expose the factory pry notch on the edge of the audio bezel.
- Slip a plastic trim tool or a tape-wrapped 3-inch putty knife into the notch and walk the bezel away from the dash. The audio unit and climate panel are both attached to this bezel, so support the assembly as the clips release.
- Use plastic panel tools rather than metal blades - the 3rd gen Fit dash plastics scar easily and are very visible from the front seats.
- Tip the bezel forward and unplug the wiring harnesses for the climate controls and the audio unit before separating the bezel from the dash.
- Back out the three to four small chassis screws evenly so the head unit slides forward squarely in its bracket.
Photograph each connector before unplugging it - the plugs look similar but only seat correctly in their original ports.

Common S/N Formats Used on 2019 Fit Units
Based on the radio installed in the 2019 Honda Fit:
U1234L5678– Standard Honda OEM formatHBM####– Used in Display Audio and navigation units913A####– Some Alpine-manufactured units
The 2019 Fit may have: base CD radio (U/L format), Display Audio 5"/7" (HBM format), or navigation unit (HBM format). All require a 5-digit unlock code.
Important Make sure you record the serial number, not the part number (which starts with 39100, 39101, or similar Honda part coding).
2019 Fit radio serial format
You should expect an 8-character alphanumeric Honda serial on the 2019 Fit - letters and digits intermixed, with no dashes, whitespace, or punctuation. On the 5-inch LX the value is typically split across two alternating screens prefixed with U (first 4 characters) and L (last 4 characters); ignore the prefix labels and record the eight characters between them. The 7-inch Display Audio normally shows the serial as a single 8-character string. Watch for the usual look-alikes: 0/O, 1/I, 5/S, and 8/B. A single wrong character returns the wrong unlock code from any source.
How to Enter the Radio Code
Now that you've found the S/N and retrieved the unlock code, the next step is entering it into your radio.
Honda original head units display a CODE prompt when ready for input.
The process is quick, but button layouts and confirmation methods may change depending on the radio version installed in your Fit.
The Correct Way to Enter It
To enter the code on the 2019 Honda Fit:
- Ignition ON. Radio displays "CODE" or "ENTER CODE".
- Non-touchscreen models: Press preset buttons 1-5 to select each digit, then hold button 6 to confirm.
- Display Audio touchscreen: An on-screen keypad is displayed. Tap each digit and press "Enter" or "OK".
Lockout: 3 wrong entries cause a 60-minute lockout. Keep ignition ON. Don't cycle the key or the timer resets.
Entering the 5-digit code on a 2019 Fit
- Turn the ignition to ON so the head unit boots and displays
CODEor a numeric entry prompt. - Use only presets 1 through 6 - Honda 3rd-gen Fit codes are 5 digits drawn exclusively from the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
- Confirm with the right-arrow / Enter control on the 5-inch LX, or the on-screen Enter control on the 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen.
- Multiple wrong attempts lock the radio for roughly one hour. Keep the ignition ON for the entire wait, as cutting power resets the cooldown back to a full hour.
Understanding the 2019 Honda Fit Radio Code Retrieval Process
To get the code, you'll take only a few simple steps.
- Find your radio's serial number - this is the only info required by our side.
Unlike when contacting the dealer, no VIN or paperwork is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
Our system checks it against a database of supported units and automatically catches the matching anti-theft code. - In most cases, the code appears instantly on the screen after payment and is also sent to your email , just in case.
If manual verification is required (rare situations), you'll be informed before checkout. - Once you get it, just enter it into your radio to restore full functionality.
Understanding Unlock Issues with Your Fit
If the Display Audio screen comes on but goes straight to the home screen without any "CODE" display, consider these points:
- Anti-theft may not have triggered — some battery changes skip the lock if done quickly enough.
- Certain Display Audio units, the code prompt shows only on the audio portion of the screen, not the navigation display — give it a moment after startup.
- Check the Settings → System → Device Information route; if the serial is visible there, the unit may still be functional without a code.
Should none of the above match, a fuse check is the next step — a failed fuse prevents the radio from powering on at all.
The Display Audio platform uses the same 3-attempt lockout as older Honda radios. Recovery steps:
- Keep the ignition in ON or ACC — do not switch off.
- Allow the full 60-minute period. The touchscreen might dim during this time — that's normal.
- After 60 minutes, the radio re-displays "CODE" and you can.
On Display Audio touchscreen models, the lockout countdown runs in the background. Just leave the vehicle running or the ignition on ACC until the timer expires.
On the Display Audio, a rejected code usually points to the serial was misread. Either retrieval method can produce the correct serial — confirm that the serial you submitted was read off the radio itself and not from an online database.
After one failed entry, pause and reach out before trying again — a second wrong attempt gets you one step closer to the 60-minute lockout. A free serial reverification can be done on request.
The Display Audio era includes radios using multiple serial prefixes depending on the trim level:
U####L####— base CD radio serial (10 characters, two halves).HBM####— Display Audio 5"/7" and navigation units.913A####— some Alpine OEM configurations.
Part numbers on the same label start with 39100 or 39101 — these are not serials. If uncertain, use the Settings → Device Information menu or the 1+6 button method to pull the serial directly from the unit.
Entry method depends on the exact radio variant in the Display Audio-era Fit:
- Non-touchscreen base radio: Press preset buttons 1–5 to scroll to each digit, then hold button 6 to confirm — identical to older Honda platforms.
- Display Audio 5" or 7" touchscreen: An on-screen numeric keypad appears when the code prompt is active. Tap each digit and press OK or Enter on screen.
Should the touch input not work, attempt the physical preset buttons — some units support either input method. Ensure the screen is fully booted before starting entry.
Why Did the Radio Lock and Ask for a Code?
Honda's Display Audio system retains the same anti-theft design as earlier radios: losing battery power causes a code request at next startup. This affects both the base radio and the Display Audio unit.
- Battery replacement — the usual culprit.
- Battery disconnect during repairs — any work that cuts battery power will activate the lock.
- Completely dead battery — a drained battery has the same result.
Note: many higher-end Display Audio models from the 2014–2021 period might not use a traditional code-based lock — if the radio never showed "CODE" after a battery change, it could have a different anti-theft method linked to the vehicle VIN.
