Common Situations Requiring a Code
Dealing with a locked Ram ProMaster radio? Usually, it was triggered by one of these well-known situations.
Error After a Battery Change
When the battery is removed, the Ram ProMaster radio enters anti-theft mode.
This factory protection system is designed to prevent theft by disabling the radio after power loss.
Additional Scenarios Where Radio Requires a Code
- After an ECU or software reset, the radio may lock.
- Installing a used head unit will trigger the original radio code.
- Jump-starting the vehicle can reset the radio, requiring the unlock code.
- A fuse removal can cause the Ram ProMaster radio to lock.
The Radio Code - What is It and Why It's Important for Ram ProMaster?
When the radio is cut off from power, it automatically locks and requires a security code to be entered before it can be operated.
A factory radio code (also known as an anti-theft code) is a built-in security system integrated into original car stereos to protect theft.
This system ensures that a removed radio becomes inoperable without the correct code.
Entering the valid code returns full stereo and infotainment functionality.
Places to Check Before Buying a Radio Code
Before you decide to pay, it's worth checking a few places where the code is often already written down.
Some drivers find their Ram ProMaster radio code without needing any tools or paperwork.
Here are the most common things to check first.
Check Inside the Glovebox
- In the radio manual, often on a sticker page.
- In the boot compartment, on a radio label.
- In your car paperwork from the previous owner.
- Inside the glovebox, sometimes on a label.
- On the head unit itself, if it was serviced earlier.
Can You Get a Ram ProMaster Radio Code from the Dealer?
Dealerships can retrieve your radio code by checking the vehicle records in their system.
They typically ask for registration and ID before sharing the security PIN.
This is the official way to restore access to the factory radio.
Potential Downsides:
- The lookup is often slower and may require waiting.
- Some imported or older radios may not be in their database.
- Dealers frequently bill for the code (It may cost more than 100$).
- You may need to contact service support during business hours.
Locating the S/N on Your Radio
The only thing you'll need to get the code is your radio's radio serial. No extra vehicle data is required.
On most Ram models, you can find it in these common spots:
- Displayed on the radio screen (sometimes by using a key combination)
- On the radio unit itself - you'll need to pull it out and write down the serial number (which is fairly easy)
Search for something like: S/N or Serial.
1. View the Serial Number on Ram ProMaster's Display
Most Uconnect-equipped vehicles are able to show the radio serial number directly on the screen using a hidden diagnostic menu called Dealer Mode (also known as Engineering Mode). This means you can get the serial number without removing the radio from the dashboard.
Uconnect 8.4" Classic (2013–2018)
Method 1 – Climate Controls:
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON (engine off).
- Simultaneously hold the Up, Down, and Front Defrost climate buttons for 5 seconds.
- The Dealer Mode menu will appear on screen.
- Navigate to: System Info → Radio Part Info → Serial Number.
Method 2 – Temperature Buttons:
- Hold the Temperature Up (red) and Temperature Down (blue) buttons together for 5 seconds.
- The Engineering Menu appears.
- Navigate to: System Info → Radio Part Info → Serial Number.
Uconnect 8.4" NEW (2019+) & 12-inch

- Press the bottom-left and bottom-right edges of the physical screen bezel simultaneously until Dealer Mode appears.

Important Press the physical bezel edges, not the touchscreen surface.
Uconnect 7" (e.g. Jeep Compass)
- Hold the Temperature Up and Temperature Down buttons for 5 seconds.
- The Engineering Menu will appear.
- Navigate to: System Info → Target Main Data → Serial Number.
2. Locating your S/N on the Radio Unit
The serial number is usually located on a label attached to the radio casing.
Step 1: Turn off the the ignition.
Step 2: After that, take off the surrounding panel.
Step 3: Then unscrew the radio brackets.
Step 4: Carefully slide the unit out partially (Be careful not to damage the connections).
Step 5: Look for the serial number on the rear of the unit.
Step 6: Write down the full number carefully and come back to our website so that we can generate your code.
Important: Be careful not to mix the Serial Number and the Part Number!
Physical Radio Removal (if Dealer Mode is unavailable)
If the on-screen method is not available on your vehicle, the radio can be physically removed to read the serial number label on the top, side, or back of the unit:
- Remove the trim bezel – Gently remove the dashboard trim surrounding the radio using a plastic trim removal tool. The bezel is held by friction clips.
- Unscrew the mounting bolts – Remove the 4 mounting screws (usually Torx or Phillips) securing the radio to the dash frame.
- Slide the unit forward – Gently pull the radio out far enough to see the label. Do not disconnect the wiring harness unless necessary.
- Locate the serial number label – Look for a white or silver sticker with a barcode on the top or side of the unit. The serial number is a 14-character alphanumeric code (e.g.
T00AM394958584).

Most Common Ram ProMaster Serial Formats
To unlock your radio, find the serial starting with T00AM, TM9, or A2C. Do NOT use serials ending in W, J, L, or S — those are screen/DVD/amplifier modules.

Entering the Radio Code on Ram ProMaster
With your code ready, it's time to input it into the Ram ProMaster's radio.
The locked radio will usually show a "CODE" prompt.
Use the radio presets or a rotary dial to select each number, then confirm to activate the stereo.
To input the unlock code on your Uconnect radio:
- When the radio is locked, the screen will display "ENTER CODE" or show four dashes (----).
- Use the on-screen keypad (touchscreen models) or the preset buttons (non-touchscreen models) to enter each digit of your 4-digit code.
- After entering all 4 digits, the radio unlocks automatically – no need to press a confirm button.
Tip: Make sure you enter the code carefully. Three incorrect attempts will trigger a temporary lockout.
ProMaster's Radio Code FAQs
Free security codes are rarely available.
Some service documents may help, but most codes require a dealer lookup.
The only no-cost option would be to check your vehicle and its manual to see if you have it written down.
Yes. Each head unit has its own security code.
If you install a different radio, you'll need the code for that individual radio.
Many original head units use a security code, but not every model year require one.
Whether a code is needed is determined by the radio unit and the vehicle generation.
Uconnect is the infotainment system developed by Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) and used across Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo vehicles. Most Uconnect radios feature an anti-theft protection system that activates whenever the radio loses power – for example after a battery replacement, a dead battery, or electrical work.
When triggered, the radio displays "ENTER CODE" and won't work until the correct 4-digit unlock code is entered. The code is permanently tied to the radio's serial number, not the vehicle's VIN, which is why finding the serial number is the first step to unlocking.
Yes, for most vehicles. Uconnect systems from 2013 onwards include a hidden Dealer Mode (or Engineering Mode) diagnostic menu that shows the serial number directly on screen. You can access it by holding specific button combinations – no tools or radio removal required.
However, some 2020+ models may have had Dealer Mode restricted via software updates. If you can't reach the on-screen menu, the radio must be physically removed to read the serial number label on the unit. See our full Dealer Mode guide for step-by-step instructions with video tutorials.
Yes. The 12-inch Uconnect display found in newer Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks still uses the same anti-theft protection system. If the battery is replaced or disconnected, the radio will lock and need a 4-digit unlock code.
To access Dealer Mode on the 12-inch screen, press the bottom-left and bottom-right edges of the physical screen bezel simultaneously. Navigate to System Info → Radio Part Info to find the serial number.
