How to Unlock a Honda CR-V Radio After Power Loss
Getting your radio code takes only 4 simple steps.
- Locate your radio's serial number - this is the only info required by our side.
Unlike when contacting the dealer, no VIN is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
Our system checks it against a database of supported radios and automatically retrieves the matching radio code. - In most cases, the code appears instantly on the screen after you pay and is also sent to your email , just in case.
If we need to check it manually, you'll be informed before checkout. - When you receive it, just enter it into your radio to restore full functionality.
Got the Code? Here's How to Enter It
Once the system gives you 2024 Honda CR-V radio code from the serial, you're ready to reactivate the radio.
Many drivers get stuck at this stage because input methods can look different across radio versions, but it's usually simple.
When the radio shows CODE, it means the unit is waiting for the correct numbers.
Entering Process
To input the code on the 2024 Honda CR-V:
- Ignition ON. The screen shows "CODE" or "ENTER CODE".
- If an on-screen keypad is displayed: Press each digit and press Enter.
- If the radio has preset buttons: Use buttons 1-5 to select each digit of the 5-digit code, then press and hold button 6 to confirm.
Lockout: 3 incorrect attempts = 60-minute lockout. Ignition must remain ON throughout.
Finding the Radio S/N for Honda
The first step is writing down the radio serial number.
Most drivers assume the code depends on the Honda model or year, but actually, the whole process relies on the unique radio's serial number.
The serial is the key used to calculate the correct unlock code.
This is actually better, because if you have bought a used radio, the VIN or other Honda-specific data wouldn't help.
Based on the radio used, you can retrieve the serial directly from the screen or by checking the label on the radio chassis.
Accessing the Serial Number Through the Radio Menu
Try the following for your 2024 Honda CR-V:
The 2024 Honda CR-V comes with Honda's latest infotainment system with a 9" touchscreen. The serial number can be retrieved through the infotainment menu:
- Turn ignition to ON.
- Navigate to: Settings → System → Device Information or System Information.
- The serial number is typically displayed on this screen.
Fallback: The traditional buttons 1+6 method can be tried if the settings menu doesn't show the serial. Hold buttons 1 and 6 for 3-5 seconds while the radio shows "CODE".
Find the S/N by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
If the serial number cannot be accessed via display, use the removal method.
Most Honda CR-V original radios include a tag with the serial number printed on the chassis.
The process:
- Remove key from ignition.
- Carefully remove surrounding dashboard trim.
- Release clips holding the radio.
- Pull forward to inspect the label.
If on-screen methods don't work on the 2024 Honda CR-V:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Pry off the dashboard trim panel around the touchscreen. Newer Honda models use integrated trim with friction clips.
- Remove the mounting screws securing the display module.
- Ease the unit forward to view the serial label on the rear of the module.
Caution: Recent Honda infotainment units are closely integrated into the dashboard. Attempt the settings menu method first.

Typical Radio Serial Prefixes and Formats
The 2024 Honda CR-V comes with Honda's current infotainment system. Serial number formats:
HBM####– Most common format for modern Honda Display Audio unitsU1234L5678– Still used on some lower-trim radio versions
The 2024 CR-V's infotainment is manufactured by Honda's OEM partners (Alpine). The serial is typically 8-10 characters.
Note Certain 2024+ CR-V trims may use Android-based infotainment that may not need a traditional radio code. If the unit never displayed "CODE" after a battery disconnect, it may not be code-locked.
Why Is the Radio Asking for a Code?
Even on Honda's most recent infotainment platform, the anti-theft code can activate when the battery is replaced. The trigger is the same across every Honda generation: power loss wipes the radio's authorization state.
- Battery swap or disconnect — by far the most common cause.
- Dead battery from storage or neglect — a fully discharged battery has the same effect.
Worth noting: a growing number of 2022+ Honda models use Google-built infotainment that does not use a conventional unlock code. If the unit showed no code request after a battery event, it may use VIN-based protection instead.
Understanding Unlock Issues with Your CR-V
Following three wrong code attempts, the modern Honda infotainment triggers a 60-minute lockout. Recovery is straightforward:
- Leave ignition ON — do not switch off the vehicle.
- Allow the full 60 minutes to pass. The display may enter standby — that is normal.
- After the lockout period, the "CODE" prompt returns.
If the vehicle cannot idle for 60 minutes, ACC mode is sufficient to keep the timer running. Avoid turning the key fully off — it resets the countdown.
Modern Honda infotainment typically uses the HBM#### serial format, though base radio configurations may still use the U####L#### format. The easiest way to confirm the serial is:
- Go to Settings → System → Device Information — the serial is listed directly.
- As a fallback, use the 1+6 preset button method while the "CODE" screen is displayed.
Part numbers — starting with 39100 — appears on the same label but should not be used as the serial. Submit only the serial retrieved via the menu or the button method.
On Honda's modern infotainment, a rejected code usually comes down to the wrong serial used. The serial can be found through Settings → Device Information — confirm that what you submitted is the same as what the system shows.
Some newer CR-V trims have switched to Google-based infotainment that does not use a traditional radio code. Should the unit never showed "CODE", a traditional code might not be relevant. Reach out to confirm which type of unit is fitted.
On modern Honda infotainment, code entry is usually done via the on-screen keypad:
- Press each digit of the five-digit code directly on the touchscreen.
- Press OK or Enter to confirm the full code.
For trims where physical preset buttons are still available, they can also be used for digit selection and hold button 6 to confirm — identical to older Honda platforms. If unsure which method applies, start with the on-screen keypad.
When the newer system boots but never shows a "CODE" prompt, chances are one of the following:
- The unit may not lock — some 2022+ models use VIN-linked security instead of a traditional code.
- The radio may already be unlocked — try normal radio operation to confirm.
- Navigate to Settings → System → Device Information — if this menu opens normally, the system might not be in a locked state.
If none of these apply, the unit may require a dealer reset — contact support with the model year for guidance.
