Steps to Unlock Your 2000 Renault Clio Radio
Car radios use anti-theft codes tied to the radio unit itself instead of the vehicle model or production year.
- Our lookup service works by matching your Renault Clio radio's serial number.
- When you input the serial into the generator, the system identifies the radio unit and generates the code that you need.
- Simply input the digits into the Clio stereo.
- Compared to Renault dealer retrieval, this method is faster and more convenient.
Can't Locate Your Radio S/N? Follow The Steps Below for Renault Clio 2000
The initial step is to locate the radio's S/N.
Based on the head unit type installed in your 2000 Clio, the serial can be accessed either through the screen menu or by checking the label on the radio itself.
Below are the most common methods to identify your S/N quickly.
2000 Clio - Which Radio Did You Get?
The 2000 Clio Mk2 was supplied with single-DIN Renault head units, predominantly the Philips-built Renault Tuner family. The Tuner List variant was introduced on Renault around this period and is recognisable by its alphanumeric display.
- Renault Tuner / Tuner List (Philips OEM): single-DIN cassette or CD unit with 1-6 preset buttons. Tuner List units accept the hold 1+6 PRE-code display method.
- Renault Tuner Cassette (carry-over): visually similar earlier units without the display-based PRE-code feature.
- Identification cue: look at the faceplate. Units badged TUNER LIST or showing alphanumeric station text on the display are Tuner List; plain TUNER badging usually indicates the earlier carry-over unit.
Access the S/N on the Radio Display
The method for 2000 Renault Clio is this:
The 2000 Renault Clio is equipped with a Blaupunkt OEM radio or MediaNav system. Many Renault radios do not support an on-screen serial display method.
The serial number can be found on a label on the radio unit. The radio must be extracted to access it. Some more recent Clio with MediaNav may show the serial in Settings → System.
Find the Serial Number on the Radio Display
Tuner List units fitted to the 2000 Clio expose a 4-character pre-code on the screen, which is the value used for code lookup.
Renault Tuner List (Philips)
- Turn the ignition to ON or accessory so the radio powers up normally.
- Simultaneously press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 for approximately 5 seconds.
- The display switches to PRE-code followed by 4 characters, typically one letter and three digits (for example A123).
- Note the 4-character pre-code exactly as shown. This is the value used for the code retrieval; transcribe carefully and watch for 0 vs O and 1 vs I.
Manufacturer Label Inspection
If the serial number cannot be accessed through menu, use the hardware method.
Most Renault Clio OEM radios include a label with the serial number printed on the housing.
Step-by-Step:
- Power down the vehicle.
- Remove the bezel surrounding the radio.
- Unscrew the clips.
- Slide the unit slightly out to access the label.
The serial number is usually located near the barcode.
To access the serial on the 2000 Renault Clio:
- Power down the vehicle.
- Locate the extraction holes on both sides of the radio. Renault radios commonly use pin-release extraction holes.
- Insert extraction tools and pull the radio out.
- Read the serial on the manufacturer label on the casing. It begins with PH.
Note: Renault extraction tools are the same DIN-style tools used for Fiat vehicles.
View the Serial by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
If the Tuner List PRE-code method is not available (non-Tuner-List unit or non-responsive display), the serial can be read from the chassis label after removal.
- Safety first: ignition off, key out, negative battery terminal disconnected, wait several minutes. Do not disturb yellow airbag connectors.
- Insert a matched pair of Renault DIN release keys into the small holes on each side of the faceplate until the side clips release.
- Pull both keys outward in parallel so the unit slides forward in its cage. Do not lever or force the fascia.
- Disconnect the antenna lead and ISO connectors once the unit is partially out. Do not power the radio while disconnected.
- Look on the top, side, or rear of the chassis for a white security sticker. The radio serial appears next to S/N or Serial, beside a Renault 7700 / 8200 / 2811 part-number band. Photograph the label.
- Verify ambiguous characters under a flashlight before submitting.

How Serial Numbers Usually Look on These Clio Radios
The 2000 Renault Clio radio serial prefixes:
BP####– Blaupunkt radio serial (most common)CC####– Continental radio serialPH####– Philips radio serialPR####– Other Renault OEM format
The serial is printed on the radio casing. Don't confuse it with the Renault part number.
Typical Serial Number Formats for 2000 Clio Radios
Format is determined by the radio supplier. The 2000 Clio is dominated by Philips-built Renault Tuner units.
- PRE-code (on-screen): typically one letter followed by three digits, for example A123. This 4-character value is what the code lookup is based on for Tuner List units.
- Chassis-label serial: longer alphanumeric string on a white sticker, listed next to S/N or Serial. The 7700 / 8200 / 2811 sequence on the same label is the Renault part number, not the radio serial.
- Validation: double-check 0 vs O, 1 vs I, and 8 vs B. Do not submit barcode-only references or the Renault part number in place of the serial.
How Code Entry Works on Your Renault Radio
After locating the S/N and received the unlock code, the final part is entering it into your radio.
Renault original head units display a ENTER CODE message when ready for input.
The process is simple, but button layouts and confirmation methods may vary depending on the radio version installed in your Clio.
Correct Entering Process
To enter the code on the 2000 Renault Clio:
- Ignition ON. Radio displays "CODE" or four dashes (----).
- Use preset buttons 1-4 to enter each digit of the 4-digit code. Each press cycles the digit (0-9).
- Press and hold button 5 or button 6 to confirm.
Lockout: Several incorrect entries will cause a lockout. Turn off the radio for approximately half an hour, then try again.
Step-by-Step Code Input Guide
Limited Attempt Warning: Renault Tuner units enter a WAIT state after a few wrong entries, with the interval lengthening on each failure (commonly doubling up to roughly 32 minutes). Confirm the 4-digit code before any input.
- Switch the ignition to ON or accessory and power the radio. The display should show 0000 or a CODE prompt.
- Press preset 1 repeatedly to set the first digit of the unlock code.
- Press preset 2 for the second digit, preset 3 for the third, preset 4 for the fourth.
- Press and hold preset 6 (preset 5 on a small number of variants) for approximately 5 seconds until a confirmation beep sounds and the radio resumes normal operation.
- If WAIT or ERROR is shown, leave the radio powered on with the ignition active. Disconnecting the battery does not shorten the lockout.
Troubleshooting Common Radio Problems - Clio 2000
Entering the unlock code on Renault passenger car radios uses the preset station buttons to build the code digit by digit.
- Button 1 sets the first digit — each press cycles from 0 to 9.
- Button 2 controls digit 2, button 3 digit 3, button 4 digit 4.
- After setting all digits, press and hold button 5, button 6, or the Enter / AM-FM button to confirm.
Note: Some later Renault models use a touchscreen code entry pad. Tap the digits on the on-screen number pad. No hold-to-confirm is needed.
Finding the serial on Renault radios is on a label on the rear or side of the radio unit, only visible once the radio is pulled forward.
- Expected format: Look for a string beginning with BP, CC, PH, or PR followed by numbers and letters.
- Label condition: Older Renault labels can be faded. Take a well-lit close-up photo — detail is easier to read in a zoomed image.
- How to access the serial: Standard DIN release keys work on all Renault radios. Insert into the release slots on each side and draw the unit out far enough to read the rear label.
Do not use the vehicle VIN or dashboard label number — they are not the radio serial and will generate the wrong result.
Should the radio refuse your code, check the following before entering it again.
- Check the serial format: Renault radios take serials starting with BP, CC, PH, or PR. Confirm you submitted the correct serial from the radio label — not the vehicle part number or chassis number.
- Check for misread characters: With older Blaupunkt/Philips stickers, characters are easily confused. Take a clear photo and examine it carefully.
- Button sequence: Pressing button 1 cycles digit 1 from 0 to 9. Rapid pressing may go past the right number. Press deliberately and count. Only confirm once all four digits are correct.
If it keeps failing? Contact us with your serial number and we'll check and reissue if needed.
Should "CODE" or the four dashes not appear, work through these steps:
- Trigger the code request: Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds, reconnect, and power up the radio. The CODE prompt should appear.
- Check if already unlocked: If the radio plays stations and responds to all controls, it is already unlocked. You do not need to do anything.
- On MediaNav touchscreen versions: Renault MediaNav uses a different interface. Look under Settings and System for unlock-related options.
- Some units need ACC or ON: Some Blaupunkt/Philips units may only show the code prompt when the ignition is in ACC or ON. Check both positions.
The display shows "WAIT" or "SAFE" after 3 wrong code attempts, locking out further input until the timer expires.
How to reset it: Turn the ignition to ON and keep it in that position for a full 60 minutes. Switching off mid-wait resets the countdown to zero. The timer resets every time power is cut.
On Renault models, voltage can drop if the ignition is on for an extended period without the engine running. Keep the engine idling or connect a charger where practical to prevent the timer restarting.
Why Is the Radio Asking for a Code?
The single most common cause for a locked radio on Renault vehicles, but there are a few others worth knowing:
- Battery swap or disconnect: Battery replacement is the top reason across all Renault models. Renault radios lock every time the battery is disconnected or replaced. This is extremely common, even when the battery is only disconnected briefly.
- Buying a used Renault: The radio code is seldom included when a car changes hands. Both trade and private sellers frequently cannot provide it.
- Flat battery from sitting: A completely flat battery triggers the code request when power is restored.
- Service disconnect: Any work involving the battery — including an MOT, tyre change, or oil change — can trigger the lock.
