Finding the Radio S/N for Renault
The first step is to find the radio's S/N.
Depending on the radio unit used in your 2002 Kangoo, the S/N can usually be accessed either through the display menu or by checking the label on the radio itself.
Below are the most common methods to identify your S/N quickly.
Factory Radios on the 2002 Renault Kangoo
The 2002 Kangoo Mk1 was the final year before the March 2003 facelift. Audio offerings carried over from the launch range, with the Tuner Cassette as the principal coded factory unit and many base vans still supplied without a head unit.
The Renault Tuner Cassette (Tuner List) is a Continental/Becker single-DIN unit with a small monochrome display, four preset buttons numbered 1 to 4 across the lower fascia, and a central cassette slot. A flat single-DIN blanking plate in the dash indicates a no-radio factory configuration.
Accessing the Serial Number Through the Radio Menu
The method for 2002 Renault Kangoo is this:
The 2002 Renault Kangoo features a Renault OEM radio or MediaNav system. Many Renault radios don't have an on-screen serial number retrieval method.
The serial number can be found on a sticker on the radio unit. The radio must be partially removed to access it. Some newer Kangoo with MediaNav may show the serial in Settings → System.
Fast Serial Lookup Using Radio Controls
The Tuner Cassette on the 2002 Kangoo can show its pre-code on the display, allowing serial retrieval without removing the unit.
Renault Tuner Cassette (Tuner List)
Turn the ignition to the accessory position so the radio powers up without starting the engine. With the head unit at the standby screen or the CODE prompt, press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 together for about 5 seconds. The display will change to show a value of one letter followed by three digits (examples: A283, T657).
Record the value exactly as shown. This pre-code identifies the unit; the unlock code itself is a separate 4-digit value derived from it.
Serial Number on the Unit
If the serial number cannot be accessed via display, use the hardware method.
Most Renault Kangoo factory radios include a label with the serial number printed on the chassis.
Steps:
- Switch off the vehicle.
- Detach the bezel surrounding the radio.
- Release the mounting bolts.
- Pull the unit forward to access the label.
The serial number is usually located near the manufacturer sticker.
To access the serial on the 2002 Renault Kangoo:
- Power down the vehicle.
- Find the extraction holes on each side of the radio. Renault radios typically use DIN-style extraction holes.
- Insert radio release keys and slide the radio forward.
- Find the serial on the barcode label on the chassis. It starts with CC.
Tip: Renault extraction tools are the standard European-style tools used for many European vehicles.
Releasing the Radio Unit to View the S/N on the Tag
If the pre-code does not appear on the display, the same value is printed on a chassis sticker. The Tuner Cassette is held in a single-DIN cage released by four extraction keys.
Safety: turn off the ignition, remove the key, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and wait several minutes. Do not pull on yellow airbag connectors and do not power the radio while it is partially connected.
Tools needed: four U-shaped Renault DIN extraction keys, a plastic trim wedge, a small flashlight, and a phone to photograph the label.
Insert one key fully into each of the four corner holes on the radio fascia until the internal clips release. Apply gentle outward pressure to the keys and pull the chassis straight back from the dash. Support the unit once it is clear of the cage and unplug the ISO connector and antenna lead at the rear.
The white sticker on the top or side of the case carries the chassis serial starting with T0 + one letter + three digits, and the pre-code in a Security field on the same label. Photograph the sticker, verify 0 vs O and 1 vs I, then refit in reverse order.

These are the Common Serial Formats
The 2002 Renault Kangoo radio serial prefixes:
BP####– Blaupunkt radio serial (most common)CC####– Continental radio serialPH####– Philips radio serialPR####– Other Renault OEM prefix
The serial is printed on the radio casing. Do not mistake it with the vehicle part number.
Typical Serial Number Examples for 2002 Kangoo
Serial structure on the 2002 Kangoo Tuner Cassette is dictated by the Continental/Becker hardware. Two values appear on the side sticker: the chassis serial and the pre-code.
The chassis serial typically begins with T0 followed by one letter and three digits. The pre-code, used to derive the unlock code, is always one letter and three digits (examples: V248, D833, S103). Both values sit on the same printed label, the pre-code usually under a Security heading.
Validation tips: the pre-code is always 4 characters total. Do not submit the longer part number or the EAN barcode reference. Recheck similar-looking characters (0 vs O, 1 vs I) before submission.
Locked Kangoo Radio? Here's Exactly How to Get the Code
Getting your radio code takes only a few simple steps.
- Find the radio's serial - this is the only information required by our side.
The difference with the dealership lookup is that no VIN is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
Our system checks it against a database of supported units and automatically retrieves the matching radio code. - In most cases, the code appears instantly on the screen after payment and is also sent to your email for backup.
If we need to check it manually, you'll be informed before checkout. - Once you receive the code, just enter it into the radio to restore the functionality.
Radio Code Input Guide
After receiving 2002 Renault Kangoo anti-theft code from the S/N, you're ready to reactivate the radio.
Many drivers hesitate at this stage because input process can look different across radio versions, but it's usually simple.
When the radio shows dashed lines, it means the unit is waiting for the correct numbers.
Entering Process Explained
To enter the code on the 2002 Renault Kangoo:
- Ignition ON. Radio shows "CODE" or four dashes (----).
- Press preset buttons 1-4 to enter each digit of the 4-digit code. Each press cycles the digit (0-9).
- Press and hold button 5 or button 6 to accept.
Lockout: Several incorrect entries will cause a lockout. Leave the radio for about half an hour, then try again.
The Correct Way to Enter It
Once the 4-digit unlock code has been derived, it is entered on the Tuner Cassette using preset buttons 1 to 4 and confirmed with a hold of the dedicated preset.
Limited Attempt Warning: the Tuner Cassette typically allows only 3 attempts. After repeated incorrect entries the unit enters a lockout state requiring a waiting period before further attempts are accepted. Confirm both the pre-code reading and the derived unlock code before beginning entry.
Renault Tuner Cassette (Tuner List)
Switch the ignition to accessory; the radio powers up and shows CODE. Press preset 1 repeatedly until the first digit of the unlock code is displayed. Press preset 2 for the second digit, then preset 3 for the third digit and preset 4 for the fourth digit. The display updates after each press.
Hold the confirm preset (commonly preset 6) for several seconds until the unit beeps and resumes normal audio output. If the value is rejected, the display shows an error and the attempt counter advances; stop and re-verify before any further attempt.
Why Did the Radio Lock and Ask for a Code?
The single most common cause for a locked radio on Renault vehicles, but there are a few others to be aware of:
- Battery swap or disconnect: Battery replacement is the top reason across all Renault models. The lock activates any time 12V power is interrupted. This is extremely common, even during a very short disconnect.
- Second-hand purchase: The radio code is rarely passed on when a car changes hands. Both trade and private sellers frequently cannot provide it.
- Discharged battery: A completely flat battery triggers the code request when power is restored.
- Workshop or service work: Service that disconnects the battery — even routine maintenance — may activate the code request.
Kangoo 2002 Common Radio Problems
Code entry on Renault Kangoo radios relies on the preset station buttons to build the code digit by digit.
- Button 1 sets the first digit — each press cycles from 0 to 9.
- Button 2 controls digit 2, button 3 digit 3, button 4 digit 4.
- Once all four digits are correct, hold down button 5, button 6, or the Enter / AM-FM button to submit the entry.
Note: Newer Renault models with a MediaNav touchscreen use an on-screen keypad instead of preset buttons. If a number pad appears on screen, tap it directly. No hold-to-confirm is needed.
Should the radio refuse your code, check these points before entering it again.
- Verify the serial prefix: Renault radios use serials starting with BP, CC, PH, or PR. Confirm you entered the full serial from the radio label — not the vehicle part number or chassis number.
- Look for digit confusion: With older Blaupunkt/Philips stickers, characters are easily confused. Take a clear photo and examine it carefully.
- Entry method: Pressing button 1 cycles digit 1 from 0 to 9. Rapid pressing may go past the right number. Count each press and take it slowly. Hold button 5 or 6 to confirm only after all four digits are set.
If it keeps failing? Contact us with your serial number and we'll check and reissue if needed.
The display shows "WAIT" / "SAFE" after 3 wrong code attempts, preventing further input until the timer runs down.
Clearing the wait: Turn the ignition to ON and keep it in that position for a full 60 minutes. Any power interruption restarts the 60-minute timer. The timer resets every time power is cut.
On Renault models, battery drain during a long wait is possible. Run the engine or connect a charger where practical to prevent the timer restarting.
The serial number on Renault radios can be found on a sticker on the rear or side of the radio unit, only accessible once the radio is pulled forward.
- Expected format: Look for a string beginning with BP, CC, PH, or PR followed by 8–10 alphanumeric characters.
- If the label is hard to read: Older Renault labels can be faded. Take a well-lit close-up photo — detail is easier to read in a zoomed image.
- How to access the serial: Pin-release extraction tools fit all Renault radios. Insert into the release slots on each side and pull forward.
Never submit the VIN or a part number — these produce an incorrect code.
When the radio starts but does not ask for a code, work through these steps:
- Trigger the code request: Pull the radio fuse briefly, refit, and power up the radio. The radio should then request the code.
- Check if already unlocked: If the radio plays stations and responds to all controls, it is not locked. You do not need to do anything.
- On MediaNav touchscreen versions: Renault MediaNav does not show a code prompt the same way. Check Settings → System for unlock or serial options.
- Ignition position: Older Renault radios may only show the code prompt when the ignition is in ACC or ON. Check both positions.
