The initial step is locating the radio serial.
Most people assume the code depends on the Honda model or year, but in reality, the whole process relies on the unique radio unit's serial number.
Each radio has its own serial tied to the security system.
This is even better, because if you have a used radio, the VIN or other vehicle-specific data wouldn't help.
Based on the radio version used, you can retrieve the serial directly from the screen or by looking at the label on the radio chassis.
Access Your S/N on the Radio Screen
The method for 2011 Honda Insight is this:
The 2011 Honda Insight features a double-DIN head unit with a small LCD display. The serial number can be displayed using the preset button method:
- Turn ignition to ON or ACC. The radio shows "CODE" or "ENTER CODE".

- Fuse replacement — replacing the radio fuse block can momentarily cut power and activate the lock.

Code rejection on the double-DIN Honda is very often traced back to the wrong serial number being submitted. The serial label on the radio housing carries both the serial and the part number — confirm you copied the serial (U####L####) and not the part number.
