Can't Locate Your Radio S/N? Follow The Steps Below for Renault Clio 2011
The initial step is writing down the radio S/N.
Many people assume the code depends on the Renault model or year, but in reality, the unlock process relies on the unique radio unit's serial number.
The serial is the key used to calculate the correct unlock code.
This is actually better, because if you have bought an aftermarket radio, the VIN or other vehicle-specific data wouldn't be of much use.
Depending on the radio used, you can retrieve the serial directly from the display or by checking the label on the radio chassis.
Identify Your 2011 Clio's Factory Radio
The 2011 Renault Clio Mk3 continued with the Phase 2 lineup. Two factory head units are relevant for code-retrieval purposes.
- Renault-Bosch Tuner List (single-DIN): Standard audio head unit on most trims. Single-DIN slot, segmented monochrome display and six numeric preset buttons; four small DIN release holes are visible at the corners of the fascia.
- Renault Carminat TomTom: Fitted on Dynamique grades. A fixed 5.8-inch colour touchscreen high in the centre dash with TomTom navigation; no DIN slot is present in this configuration.
- Field check: A preset-button single-DIN unit means Tuner List; a fixed colour touchscreen above the air vents means Carminat TomTom.
Screen-Based Serial Lookup Method
Try the following for your 2011 Renault Clio:
The 2011 Renault Clio comes with a Renault OEM radio or MediaNav system. Most Renault radios don't support an on-screen serial number retrieval method.
The serial number is located on a label on the radio unit. The radio must be extracted to access it. Certain newer Clio with MediaNav may show the serial in Settings → System.
Check the Display First - Serial Retrieval Without Tools
The Renault-Bosch Tuner List exposes its four-character precode on the radio display. The Carminat TomTom does not return a Tuner List style precode through its interface and is excluded here.
Renault-Bosch Tuner List
- Turn the ignition key to ACC so the radio powers up.
- If the radio is prompting for CODE, leave the prompt active.
- Press and hold preset buttons 1 and 6 together for around five seconds.
- Read the four-character precode shown on the display (one letter followed by three digits).
- Note the precode exactly as displayed; this is the serial required by the code service.
Find it by Pulling Out the Unit
If the serial number cannot be accessed through menu, use the hardware method.
Most Renault Clio original radios include a tag with the serial number printed on the housing.
The process:
- Ensure the ignition is off.
- Lift away surrounding dashboard trim.
- Release clips holding the radio.
- Slide outward to inspect the label.
To find the serial on the 2011 Renault Clio:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Find the release slots on both sides of the radio. Renault radios commonly use pin-release extraction slots.
- Insert radio release keys and slide the radio forward.
- Find the serial on the barcode label on the chassis. It begins with PH.
Note: Renault extraction tools are the same European-style tools used for many European vehicles.
Releasing the Radio Unit to Access the S/N on the Tag
If the display method cannot be used, the chassis label gives the secondary serial reference. The Mk3 Tuner List uses a DIN cage with four release keys; the Carminat TomTom is dash-integrated.
Safety notice: Turn the ignition off, remove the key, disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait a few minutes before starting. Do not disturb yellow airbag wiring near the centre console. Use plastic trim tools only and stop if a panel resists.
- Gather four Renault Mk3 DIN release keys (approximately 38 mm pin spacing), plastic trim tools, a small flashlight and a phone camera.
- Insert all four keys into the corner pinholes on the Tuner List fascia until the spring clips release.
- Pull the unit forward evenly using the keys as a grip; the chassis should slide out of its cage cleanly.
- Disconnect the antenna and main harness only if you need to fully free the unit.
- Locate the manufacturer sticker on the top or side of the chassis; the serial is printed or barcoded next to S/N or Serial.
- Photograph the label and double-check similar-looking characters (0 vs O, 1 vs I, 8 vs B).
- For the Carminat TomTom: the screen module is integrated into the dashboard and surrounding trim, so professional service is recommended rather than self-removal.

These are the Common Serial Formats
The 2011 Renault Clio radio serial formats:
BP####– Blaupunkt radio serial (standard)CC####– Continental radio serialPH####– Philips radio serialPR####– Alternate Renault OEM format
The serial is printed on the radio casing. Don't confuse it with the Renault part number.
Typical Serial Number Examples for 2011 Clio
The 2011 Clio uses two different head units with two different identifier formats; only the Tuner List has the short precode used for code lookup.
Renault-Bosch Tuner List
- Display precode: typically one letter followed by three digits, four characters in total (for example A123 or S999).
- Chassis label serial: longer alphanumeric printed near a Renault part number such as 8200; useful as a secondary reference only.
Renault Carminat TomTom
- The Carminat does not use the Tuner List four-character precode format. Its identifiers are tied to the integrated navigation device and are typically printed on labels on the unit body that are only accessible after professional removal.
Validation tips: do not confuse the vehicle VIN (begins with VF1 on European Clios) with the radio serial; submit the precode in upper case; and verify characters that look alike before sending.
How 2011 Renault Clio Radio Code Lookup Works
Vehicle radios use security codes tied to the radio unit itself instead of the vehicle model or production year.
- The generator identifies your Renault radio via serial-based verification.
- After entering the serial into the form above, the system identifies the radio family and retrieves the corresponding code.
- Use the code to unlock the radio immediately.
- Compared to Renault dealer retrieval, this method is faster and more convenient.
Radio Code Input Guide
After locating the serial number and generated the unlock code, the final step is entering it into your radio.
Renault OEM units display a ENTER CODE message when ready for input.
The process is simple, but button layouts and confirmation methods may differ slightly depending on the radio version installed in your Clio.
Step-by-Step - The Correct Way to Enter It
To input the code on the 2011 Renault Clio:
- Ignition ON. Radio shows "CODE" or four dashes (----).
- Use preset buttons 1-4 to enter each digit of the 4-digit code. Each press advances the digit (0-9).
- Press and hold button 5 or button 6 to submit.
Lockout: Several incorrect entries will trigger a lockout. Turn off the radio for approximately 30 minutes, then try again.
Detailed Input Instructions for Clio 2011
Code entry on the 2011 Clio is documented for the Tuner List only. The Carminat TomTom uses a different validation flow that is not described here.
Limited Attempt Warning: The Tuner List allows only a limited number of incorrect attempts before entering a WAIT lockout. Confirm every digit before pressing the hold button.
Renault-Bosch Tuner List
- Turn the ignition to ACC and switch the radio on; the display should show CODE or 0000.
- Use preset 1 to step the first digit of the code to the required value.
- Use preset 2 to step the second digit.
- Use preset 3 to step the third digit.
- Use preset 4 to step the fourth digit.
- Press and hold preset 6 for around five seconds to confirm; the radio should beep and resume normal operation.
- If WAIT or ERROR appears, leave the radio powered on in ACC and allow the internal timer to reset before retrying.
What Caused the Radio to Lock?
The single most common cause behind a locked radio on Renault vehicles, but there are a few others worth knowing:
- Battery replacement: Battery replacement is the top reason across all Renault models. Renault radios lock every time the battery is disconnected or replaced. It catches many owners off-guard, even during a very short disconnect.
- Buying a used Renault: The original code is rarely passed on when a car changes hands. Private sellers and dealers often do not have it.
- Flat battery from sitting: A battery drained from sitting unused activates the lock on reconnection or recharge.
- Workshop or service work: Service that disconnects the battery — even routine maintenance — may activate the code request.
Understanding Unlock Issues with Your Clio
The serial number on Renault radios can be found on a sticker on the rear or side of the radio unit, only visible once the radio is pulled forward.
- What to look for: Look for a string beginning with BP, CC, PH, or PR followed by 8–10 alphanumeric characters.
- If the label is hard to read: Older Renault labels can be faded. Take a well-lit close-up photo — detail is easier to read in a zoomed image.
- How to access the serial: Standard DIN release keys work on all Renault radios. Insert into the release slots on each side and pull forward.
Never submit the VIN or a part number — they are not the radio serial and will generate the wrong result.
If the radio rejects your code, work through the following before making another attempt.
- Verify the serial prefix: Renault radios take serials starting with BP, CC, PH, or PR. Confirm you submitted the full serial from the radio label — not any other sticker inside the car.
- Look for digit confusion: On worn or faded labels, characters are easily confused. Take a clear photo and examine it carefully.
- Button sequence: Pressing button 1 cycles digit 1 from 0 to 9. Rapid pressing may go past the right number. Press deliberately and count. Hold button 5 or 6 to confirm only after all four digits are set.
Still getting the wrong code? Send us your serial and order number and we'll check and reissue if needed.
Entering the unlock code on Renault passenger car radios uses the preset station buttons to dial in the code digit by digit.
- Button 1 sets the first digit — each press cycles from 0 to 9.
- Button 2 sets digit 2, button 3 digit 3, button 4 digit 4.
- Once all four digits are correct, hold down button 5, button 6, or the Enter / AM-FM button to submit the entry.
Note: Some later Renault models use a touchscreen code entry pad. If a number pad appears on screen, tap it directly. The touchscreen confirms automatically.
The radio shows "WAIT" / "SAFE" after 3 wrong code attempts, locking out further input until the timer runs down.
To clear the lockout: Turn the ignition to ON and keep it in that position for a full 60 minutes. Switching off mid-wait starts the wait again from the beginning. The timer resets every time power is cut.
With Renault vehicles, battery drain during a long wait is possible. Keep the engine idling or use a battery maintainer if possible to prevent the timer restarting.
Should "CODE" or the four dashes not appear, work through these steps:
- Force the code prompt: Pull the radio fuse briefly, reconnect, and turn the ignition on. The radio should then request the code.
- Check if already unlocked: If the radio plays stations and responds to all controls, it is not locked. No code entry is needed.
- MediaNav units: Renault MediaNav does not show a code prompt the same way. Check Settings → System for unlock or serial options.
- Some units need ACC or ON: Some Blaupunkt/Philips units may only show the code prompt when the ignition is in ACC or ON. Check both positions.
