Fast Renault Clio Radio Unlock Process Explained
Getting your radio code takes only a few simple steps.
- Locate the radio's serial number - this is the only information required by our side.
The difference with the dealership lookup is that no VIN is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
The system checks it against a database of supported units and automatically retrieves the matching radio code. - In most cases, the code appears instantly on the screen after you pay and is also sent to your email for backup.
If we need to check it manually, you'll be notified before checkout. - Once you receive the code, simply enter it into the radio to restore the functionality.
Can't Find Your Radio Serial Number? Follow These Steps for Renault Clio 2015
The important thing to know is that factory radios use a specific S/N to identify each unitindividually.
Your security system matches the code directly to the serial.
Unlike car-specific data such as VIN or registration information, it is not determined by the model or production year, so you'll be able to generate it even if you have a radio that you bought afterwards.
Depending on the manufacturer and radio installed in your Renault Clio, the access method is different.
These are the best ways to find it.
Identify Your 2015 Clio's Factory Radio
The 2015 Clio is the final pre-facelift model year and retains the original head-unit ladder. Two main variants apply.
- Renault-Bosch Tuner List (entry trims): single-DIN unit with a small monochrome display and six preset keys across the fascia.
- R-Link 1 (option packs and higher trims): 7-inch portrait touchscreen mounted as a tablet on top of the centre stack, running TomTom-customised software with steering-wheel and satellite-remote controls.
- Quick field test: Power on the radio. A row of numeric presets across the fascia points to Tuner List; a vertically oriented 7-inch colour touchscreen points to R-Link 1.
Display-Based Serial Number Retrieval
The method for 2015 Renault Clio is this:
The 2015 Renault Clio comes with a Philips OEM radio or MediaNav system. Many Renault radios do not support an on-screen serial number retrieval method.
The serial number can be found on a label on the radio unit. The radio must be partially removed to read it. Some newer Clio with MediaNav may show the serial in Settings → System.
Display-Based Serial Number Retrieval
Only the Tuner List unit fitted to the 2015 Clio exposes the pre-code on its own display.
Renault Tuner List
- Turn the ignition to ACC so the radio powers up without starting the engine.
- Press and hold preset 1 together with preset 6 for approximately five seconds.
- Read the four-character pre-code that appears - format is one letter followed by three digits, for example
V123. - Record the pre-code carefully; watch for 0 vs O and 1 vs I.
R-Link 1 does not show a user-readable pre-code via the touchscreen. For R-Link 1 use the chassis label method or retrieval by VIN.
Locate Serial on Clio's Radio Chassis
If the serial number cannot be accessed via display, use the hardware method.
Most Renault Clio original radios include a sticker with the serial number printed on the casing.
Basic process:
- Ensure the ignition is off.
- Lift away surrounding panel pieces.
- Remove fasteners holding the radio.
- Pull forward to inspect the label.
To access the serial on the 2015 Renault Clio:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Locate the release slots on both sides of the radio. Renault radios commonly use pin-release removal slots.
- Insert radio release keys and slide the radio out.
- Locate the serial on the barcode label on the housing. It starts with PR.
Tip: Renault radio release keys are the same DIN-style tools used for Fiat vehicles.
Access the S/N by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
When the on-screen method is not available, the manufacturer label on the chassis is the reliable source.
- Switch the ignition off, remove the key, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and wait several minutes before touching the dash.
- Avoid all yellow connectors and SRS airbag wiring while working near the centre stack.
- Gather tools: Renault DIN release keys (two slots per side at roughly 38 mm centre spacing on Tuner List), plastic trim removal tools, a small Phillips/Torx driver, a flashlight, and a phone for label photography.
- For the Tuner List unit, insert all four keys fully into the side slots until they click and pull the radio straight out by the keys.
- For R-Link 1, gently ease the tablet bezel with plastic tools, remove the mounting screws, and slide the screen module forward. The unit is more deeply integrated - if anything resists, consult a professional rather than force the assembly.
- Do not power the radio while partially disconnected.
- Locate the barcode sticker on the top, side, or rear of the chassis. The four-character pre-code is printed near a
SecurityorSECUmarker, or it is the trailing four characters of a longer Renault part number. - Photograph the label and re-check ambiguous characters (0 vs O, 1 vs I) before submission. Only the serial number is printed on the unit; the unlock code itself is not.

S/N Patterns and Prefixes
The 2015 Renault Clio radio serial prefixes:
BP####– Blaupunkt radio serial (most common)CC####– Continental radio serialPH####– Philips radio serialPR####– Other Renault OEM format
The serial is printed on the radio casing. Don't confuse it with the vehicle part number.
Standard Serial Number Patterns on This Radio
Serial format is governed by the radio supplier, not by the Clio model. Two patterns apply to the 2015 model year.
Renault-Bosch Tuner List
- Pre-code typically consists of one letter followed by three digits, for example
A123orS432. - The longer Renault part number on the label commonly begins with
2811; the trailing four characters of that string are usually the pre-code. - The relevant block is often marked
Security,SECU, orPRE-CODEon the chassis label.
R-Link 1
- R-Link uses an internal Renault identifier rather than a consistent user-readable four-character pre-code.
- R-Link unlock is most commonly retrieved by VIN.
Validation tips: do not submit the long part number, EAN barcode, or option code as the serial. Re-check similar characters (0 vs O, 1 vs I, 8 vs B) before submission.
How Code Entry Works on Your Renault Radio
After generating the correct unlock code based on the serial number, you can restore normal functionality by entering it into the unit.
The code entry process depends on the radio interface, but most 2015 Clio systems follow a similar structure using preset buttons, touch controls, or rotary knobs - depending on if it's a factory or an aftermarket unit.
You will typically see SAFE displayed on screen.
Step-by-Step - The Correct Way to Enter It
To input the code on the 2015 Renault Clio:
- Ignition ON. Radio displays "CODE" or four dashes (----).
- Press preset buttons 1-4 to enter each digit of the 4-digit code. Each press cycles the digit (0-9).
- Hold button 5 or button 6 to confirm.
Lockout: Multiple wrong entries will cause a lockout. Leave the radio for approximately half an hour, then try again.
Step-by-Step Code Input Guide
Once the unlock PIN is issued for the 2015 Clio, enter it slowly and confirm each digit. The procedure depends on the factory radio fitted.
Limited Attempt Warning: Renault head units allow only a small number of incorrect attempts. After consecutive wrong entries the radio enters a wait state and the delay roughly doubles with each mistake (commonly 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 minutes). Be sure of the code before entering it.
Renault Tuner List
- Switch the ignition to ACC and power the radio on. The display shows
CODEfollowed by0000. - Press preset 1 repeatedly until the first PIN digit appears.
- Press preset 2 for the second digit, preset 3 for the third, and preset 4 for the fourth.
- Press and hold preset 6 for about five seconds until a beep confirms acceptance.
- If a region prompt appears (OTHERS, AMERICA, JAPAN, ASIA, ARABIA), scroll with the seek arrows and long-press preset 5 to confirm.
R-Link 1
- On power up the tablet displays an on-screen numeric keypad.
- Tap the four PIN digits.
- Tap OK or the confirmation tick to validate.
- If
WAITorERRORis displayed, leave the ignition on and the radio powered until the timer expires before retrying.
Fixing Common Code Entry Problems for 2015 Clio
The serial number on Renault radios can be found on a sticker on the rear or side of the radio unit, only accessible after removing the unit.
- What to look for: Look for a string beginning with BP, CC, PH, or PR then numbers and letters.
- If the label is hard to read: Labels on higher-mileage vehicles are sometimes worn. Photograph under good light and zoom in — detail is easier to read in a zoomed image.
- Removal tools: Standard DIN release keys fit all Renault radios. Insert into the release slots on each side and pull forward.
Never submit the VIN or a part number — they are not the radio serial and will generate the wrong result.
The radio shows "WAIT" or "SAFE" after 3 wrong code attempts, locking out further input until the timer resets.
How to reset it: Turn the ignition to ON and leave it there for a full 60 minutes. Any power interruption starts the wait again from the beginning. The timer resets every time power is cut.
On Renault models, battery drain during a long wait is possible. Run the engine or use a battery maintainer where practical to keep voltage stable.
When the radio starts but does not ask for a code, work through these steps:
- Trigger the code request: Pull the radio fuse briefly, refit, and power up the radio. The radio should then request the code.
- Check if already unlocked: When all functions work normally without restriction, it is not locked. You do not need to do anything.
- On MediaNav touchscreen versions: Renault MediaNav does not show a code prompt the same way. Look under Settings and System for unlock-related options.
- Ignition position: Older Renault radios may only show the code prompt when the ignition is in ACC or ON. Try both.
Entering the unlock code on Renault passenger car radios relies on the preset station buttons to dial in the code digit by digit.
- Button 1 sets the first digit — each press cycles from 0 to 9.
- Button 2 controls digit 2, button 3 digit 3, button 4 digit 4.
- Once all four digits are correct, press and hold button 5, button 6, or the Enter / AM-FM button to confirm.
Important: Some later Renault models use an on-screen keypad instead of preset buttons. Tap the digits on the on-screen number pad. No hold-to-confirm is needed.
When the radio does not accept your code, check these points before entering it again.
- Verify the serial prefix: Renault radios use serials starting with BP, CC, PH, or PR. Confirm you entered the full serial from the radio label — not the vehicle part number or chassis number.
- Look for digit confusion: With older Blaupunkt/Philips stickers, characters are easily confused. Take a clear photo and examine it carefully.
- Button sequence: Pressing button 1 cycles digit 1 from 0 to 9. Rapid pressing may go past the right number. Press deliberately and count. Only confirm once all four digits are correct.

Why Did the Radio Lock and Ask for a Code?
The single most common cause for a locked radio on Renault vehicles, but several other situations to be aware of:
- Battery swap or disconnect: The most frequent cause by far on Renaults. Renault radios lock every time the battery is disconnected or replaced. This is extremely common, even when the battery is only disconnected briefly.
- Buying a used Renault: The radio code is rarely passed on when a car changes hands. Private sellers and dealers often do not have it.
- Flat battery from sitting: A battery drained from sitting unused activates the lock on reconnection or recharge.
- Service disconnect: Service that disconnects the battery — including an MOT, tyre change, or oil change — can trigger the lock.
