Why Did the Radio Lock and Ask for a Code?
Battery replacement is the number one reason behind a locked radio on Renault vehicles, but several other situations to be aware of:
- Battery replacement: The most frequent cause by far on Renaults. The lock activates any time 12V power is interrupted. It catches many owners off-guard, even when the battery is only disconnected briefly.
- Buying a used Renault: The original code is seldom included when a car changes hands. Private sellers and dealers often do not have it.
- Flat battery from sitting: A battery drained from sitting unused activates the lock on reconnection or recharge.
- Workshop or service work: Service that disconnects the battery — including an MOT, tyre change, or oil change — may activate the code request.
How 2022 Renault Clio Radio Code Lookup Works
To get the code, you'll take only a few easy steps.
- Locate your radio's serial - this is the only information required by our side.
Unlike dealership lookup, no VIN is needed. - When you've found the S/N, type it into the form above.
Our system checks it against a database of supported units and automatically retrieves the matching anti-theft code. - In most cases, the code will appear instantly on the screen after payment and is also sent to your email for backup.
If we need to check it manually, you'll be informed before checkout. - Once you get it, just enter it into the radio to restore full functionality.
Locate the Serial Number Needed to Generate Renault Clio 2022 Radio Code
The useful fact to know is that factory radios use a unique serial number to identify each unit.
Your anti-theft system links the code directly to the serial.
Different from vehicle-specific data like VIN or registration information, it is not determined by the model or production year, so you'll be able to get it even if you have a radio that you bought afterwards.
Depending on the manufacturer and radio installed in your Renault Clio, the retrieval method varies.
Here are the most reliable ways to find it.
Radios Offered in the 2022 Clio
The 2022 model year continues the EASY LINK infotainment family without hardware changes. Two head unit sizes are tied to trim and option pack across the standard, TCe, and E-Tech hybrid lineup.
EASY LINK 7-inch is the entry-level head unit, landscape oriented, fitted to lower and mid trims. It supports DAB radio, Bluetooth telephony, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The bezel typically carries a thin capacitive control strip.
EASY LINK 9.3-inch is the premium unit, portrait oriented, fitted to higher trims and available as an option on mid trims. It adds embedded TomTom navigation with 3D mapping, OTA map updates, and Renault connected services. Its tall vertical layout is the easiest visual identifier on the dash.
Quick field test: a screen taller than it is wide is the 9.3-inch EASY LINK; a screen wider than tall is the 7-inch EASY LINK. Both share the same software family and the same code-retrieval situation.
Before Removing the Radio, Try This Screen Method
Try the following for your 2022 Renault Clio:
The 2022 Renault Clio comes with a Blaupunkt OEM radio or MediaNav system. Many Renault radios do not have an on-screen serial display method.
The serial number is located on a label on the radio chassis. The radio must be partially removed to read it. Certain more recent Clio with MediaNav may show the serial in Settings → System.
Check it by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
If the serial does not appear in menu, the next step is checking the radio itself.
Many Renault radios require physical access to the serial tag attached to the unit.
Common approach:
- Start by completely shutting off the engine - pull the key out.
- Then lift the dashboard bezel.
- Next, unscrew the mounting points and pull the radio forward.
- Look for a barcode label showing the serial number.
To find the serial on the 2022 Renault Clio:
- Turn off the vehicle.
- Locate the extraction holes on both sides of the radio. Renault radios commonly use DIN-style removal slots.
- Insert radio release keys and slide the radio out.
- Locate the serial on the manufacturer label on the casing. It begins with CC.
Tip: Renault extraction tools are the same DIN-style tools used for many European vehicles.
View the S/N by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
On the 2022 Clio the EASY LINK module is built into the dashboard structure and shares mounting points with the climate controls and the connected services antenna wiring. Removal for serial retrieval is best performed by a qualified auto-electrician, both to protect the trim and to avoid disturbing the SRS wiring near the center stack.
Before any work begins: switch the ignition off, remove the key card from the cabin, disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery, and wait at least five minutes. The yellow connectors in the dashboard region belong to the airbag system and must not be moved or disconnected while live.
Workshop tools typically include plastic trim removal wedges, a Torx bit set, a small ratchet with extensions, a flashlight, and a phone camera to photograph the chassis label once the unit is free.
The removal sequence in a workshop runs as follows: unclip the screen bezel with plastic tools, release the retaining fasteners revealed behind the bezel, ease the head unit forward without straining the harness, and finally unplug the multi-pin connectors only when the unit is fully clear of the dashboard. The radio must not be powered while partially disconnected.
The serial is printed on a sticker on the top or side of the metal chassis, labelled S/N, Serial, or SN. The unlock code itself is not printed on the radio. Photograph the label clearly and verify ambiguous characters (0 versus O, 1 versus I, 8 versus B) before submission.
If the bezel resists light pressure, stop and consult a professional. The Mk5 dashboard is not designed for repeated disassembly and forcing it risks expensive trim damage.

These are the Common Serial Formats
The 2022 Renault Clio radio serial formats:
BP####– Blaupunkt radio serial (most common)CC####– Continental radio serialPH####– Philips radio serialPR####– Other Renault OEM format
The serial is printed on the radio unit. Don't confuse it with the Renault part number.
How Serial Numbers Usually Look on These Clio Radios
The serial number on a 2022 Clio EASY LINK head unit follows the format used by the head unit manufacturer, not by Renault directly. The string is alphanumeric, mixes letters and digits, and is labelled S/N, Serial, or SN on the chassis sticker.
Typical length is in the 8 to 14 character range, but exact length can vary by supplier and production batch. The serial sits separately from the part number, the hardware revision code, and the EAN-style production barcode.
Practical validation: confirm the string is the field tagged S/N or Serial before submission. Re-check characters that are easy to misread (0 versus O, 1 versus I, 8 versus B). Do not submit the part number or barcode-only references, as these are not valid for code retrieval.
How to Enter the Radio Code
Now that you've found the radio serial and retrieved the unlock code, the last part is entering it into your radio.
Renault original head units display a locked screen when ready for input.
The process is simple, but button layouts and confirmation methods may change depending on the radio version installed in your Clio.
In-depth Entering Instructions for Clio 2022
To input the code on the 2022 Renault Clio:
- Ignition ON. Radio shows "CODE" or four dashes (----).
- Press preset buttons 1-4 to enter each digit of the 4-digit code. Each press advances the digit (0-9).
- Hold button 5 or button 6 to confirm.
Lockout: Several wrong entries will cause a lockout. Leave the radio for about half an hour, then retry.
Clio 2022 Common Radio Problems
The serial number on Renault radios is on a label on the rear or side of the radio unit, only visible after removing the unit.
- What to look for: Look for a string beginning with BP, CC, PH, or PR followed by 8–10 alphanumeric characters.
- Label condition: Labels on higher-mileage vehicles are sometimes worn. Photograph under good light and zoom in — detail is easier to read in a zoomed image.
- How to access the serial: Standard DIN release keys work on all Renault models. Insert into the release slots on each side and pull forward.
Do not use the vehicle VIN or dashboard label number — they are not the radio serial and will generate the wrong result.
Code entry on Renault passenger car radios uses the preset station buttons to build the code digit by digit.
- Button 1 controls the first digit — each press cycles from 0 to 9.
- Button 2 controls digit 2, button 3 digit 3, button 4 digit 4.
- Once all four digits are correct, hold down button 5, button 6, or the Enter / AM-FM button to submit the entry.
Note: Some later Renault models use a touchscreen code entry pad. Tap the digits on the on-screen number pad. No hold-to-confirm is needed.
If the radio powers on without prompting for a code, try the following:
- Force the code prompt: Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds, reconnect, and turn the ignition on. The radio should then request the code.
- It may already be working: If the radio plays stations and responds to all controls, it is already unlocked. No code entry is needed.
- MediaNav units: Renault MediaNav uses a different interface. Check Settings → System for unlock or serial options.
- Ignition position: Older Renault radios may only show the code prompt when the ignition is in ACC or ON. Check both positions.
The screen reads "WAIT" or "SAFE" after 3 wrong code attempts, preventing further input until the timer expires.
How to reset it: Turn the ignition to ON and leave it there for a full 60 minutes. Switching off mid-wait restarts the 60-minute timer. The timer resets every time power is cut.
With Renault vehicles, battery drain during a long wait is possible. Keep the engine idling or use a battery maintainer if possible to prevent the timer restarting.
If the radio rejects your code, check these points before entering it again.
- Check the serial format: Renault radios use serials starting with BP, CC, PH, or PR. Make sure you submitted the correct serial from the radio label — not the vehicle part number or chassis number.
- Look for digit confusion: On worn or faded labels, 0 and O, 1 and I, and 8 and B look similar. Photograph the label and zoom in.
- Button sequence: Pressing button 1 cycles digit 1 from 0 to 9. Rapid pressing may go past the right number. Count each press and take it slowly. Only confirm once all four digits are correct.
