What Caused the Radio to Lock?
The ProMaster's Uconnect activates anti-theft after any power interruption. Commercial vans are serviced frequently and batteries are replaced often, making this a routine occurrence.
Common causes:
- Battery replacement — top trigger
- Failed radio fuse — often following cargo accessory installation
- Buying pre-owned without any code documentation
- Battery completely discharged from not being driven
The code comes from the radio's own serial number — not the vehicle registration.
Fast Ram ProMaster Radio Unlock Process Explained
- Instead of contacting Ram dealer or searching forums you can find the code online with the radio serial number.
- First locate your radio's serial. The best place to search is on the unit itself, and sometimes it can be visible on the ProMaster's radio screen.
- Type it into the field above, and our software will retrieve the correct 2016 ProMaster unlock code.
- After getting it, type it in using ProMaster's radio controls to release the blockade successfully.
- The entire process takes only a few minutes and requires zero paperwork and no dealer visit.
How Code Entry Works on Your Ram Radio
After receiving 2016 Ram ProMaster radio code from the S/N, you're ready to reactivate the radio.
Many drivers hesitate at this stage because input process can look different across radio versions, but it's usually quick.
When the radio shows ENTER CODE, it means the unit is waiting for the correct numbers.
Correct Entering Process
To enter the unlock code on the 2016 Ram ProMaster's radio:
- Turn the ignition to ON. The screen presents "ENTER CODE" or "CODE".
- Touchscreen models (5.0"/7.0" Uconnect): Use the on-screen keypad to enter each digit of the 4-digit code.
- Non-touchscreen models: Press preset buttons 1-4 to cycle through each digit. Hold Enter/OK to confirm.
Lockout: 3 wrong attempts cause a 60-minute lockout. Leave the ignition ON for the full lockout period. Do not turn the key off or the timer restarts.
Entering Process Explained
Once the unlock code has been retrieved for a 2016 ProMaster radio, the four-digit code can be entered straight at the head unit - no scan tool or dealer visit is required for the code-entry step itself.
- Limited attempts: the radio only accepts a small number of incorrect tries before going into a long lockout/WAIT state, so verify each digit before pressing it.
- Place the ignition in RUN/ACC so the radio powers up but the engine stays off.
- Wait for the display to show
CODE,COD 0000, or a similar prompt. - Use the numbered preset buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 to enter each of the four digits in sequence (preset 1 = first digit, preset 2 = second digit, and so on).
- Press the volume/enter knob to confirm the entry; on the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen, an on-screen OK/Enter button can be used instead if the touchscreen number pad is displayed.
- If a lockout/WAIT screen appears after the failed-attempt limit, leave the radio powered with the ignition in RUN for an extended period (commonly cited as around an hour) before trying the correct code again.
Can't Find Your Radio S/N? Follow The Steps Below for Ram ProMaster 2016
Very important thing to know is that factory radios use a unique S/N to identify each unit.
Your anti-theft system links the code directly to the serial.
Different from vehicle-specific data such as VIN or registration information, it is not determined by the model or production year, so you'll be able to get it even if you have a radio that you installed afterwards.
Depending on the maker and radio installed in your Ram ProMaster, the retrieval method varies.
These are the best ways to find it.
Identify Your 2016 Ram ProMaster's Factory Radio
For 2016 the ProMaster still ran the same two Italian-platform head units that had launched the van in North America - no platform change. Use the bullets below to identify yours:
- Base AM/FM/CD/MP3 radio - the standard non-touchscreen 1-DIN unit. Small monochrome display, six numbered preset buttons across the bottom, hard rotary tune/volume knobs, no screen graphics, no Bluetooth out of the box. Standard on Tradesman; the most common fit on cargo van trims.
- Uconnect 5.0 (RA2 / VP2-NA) without navigation - 5-inch colour touchscreen with glossy black bezel, hardware buttons (Radio, Media, Phone, Compass, More) flanking the screen. No NAV soft key on the home page; a Compass button on the bezel signals the no-nav variant.
- Uconnect 5.0 (RA2 / VP2-NA) with navigation - same 5-inch screen and bezel as the no-nav unit, with a NAV button (rather than Compass) on the bezel and a NAV soft key on the home menu. Uses the same Italian-platform supplier hardware (Magneti Marelli / Continental).
- The Uconnect 8.4 RA3/RA4 platform fitted to Ram 1500/2500/3500 trucks of the era was not offered on the ProMaster - the van stayed on the Ducato-platform Uconnect 5.0 throughout this generation.
Accessing the Serial Number Through the Radio Menu
Try the following for your 2016 Ram ProMaster:
The 2016 Ram ProMaster shares its platform with the Fiat Ducato and features the Uconnect 5.0" (RA1) or Uconnect 7.0" infotainment system, depending on the trim level. Unlike full-size Ram pickups, the ProMaster's radio may not support Dealer Mode.
Method 1 (7" Uconnect): Attempt pressing the bottom-left and bottom-right corners of the screen bezel for 5 seconds to open Dealer Mode.
Method 2 (all models): If Dealer Mode doesn't activate, the radio must be extracted to read the serial number label. See removal instructions below.
Find it by Pulling Out the Radio Unit
If the serial does not appear in menu, the next step is checking the radio itself.
Many Ram radios require physical access to the serial tag attached to the unit.
Common approach:
- Start by completely powering down the engine - pull the key out.
- Then remove the dashboard bezel.
- Next, loosen the mounting points and slide the radio forward.
- Look for a barcode label showing the serial number.
Removing the radio from the 2016 Ram ProMaster involves a slightly different technique compared to standard Ram trucks:
- Switch off the vehicle.
- Find the radio unit in the center stack area. The ProMaster's dashboard design is van-style.
- Certain ProMaster radios have small release holes on the left and right sides of the radio face. Insert DIN removal keys into these slots to disengage the internal clips.
- In the event that there are no release holes, pry off the dashboard bezel using a trim removal tool, then remove the Torx screws and pull the unit forward.
ProMaster Tip: The 2016 ProMaster may use a European-style radio mounting system with extraction holes rather than the screw-mounted system found in other Ram trucks. Look for the release holes before attempting trim removal.
Pulling Out the Radio Unit to See the S/N on the Tag
The factory radios offered on the 2016 ProMaster - the base AM/FM/CD/MP3 head unit and the Uconnect 5.0 (RA2/VP2-NA) 5-inch touchscreen, with or without the navigation option - both keep their serial on a printed chassis label rather than offering it through any screen menu. Because this Italian-platform infotainment hardware does not share the US Uconnect 8.4 dealer-mode shortcut, the head unit has to come out for the sticker to be read.
- Safety first: turn the ignition off, remove the key, disconnect the negative battery terminal, and wait several minutes; never disturb the yellow airbag/SRS connectors and stick to plastic trim tools to keep clips and metal contacts intact.
- Tools you will need: a set of four DIN radio release keys (the U-shaped pins for European-platform head units); as a workaround, a 3 mm Allen wrench or four short lengths of stiff wire (12 gauge solid copper) bent to shape; a flashlight and a soft cloth to set the chassis on.
- Look at the front fascia of the radio for four small release slots/holes - one near each corner, just inside the bezel edge.
- Insert the four DIN release keys with the curved edge inwards (locking lugs facing outwards), pushing each key fully home until the internal spring latch depresses.
- With all four keys engaged, pull outwards on the keys evenly to slide the radio forward out of the dash cage.
- Once the chassis clears the fascia, reach behind and disconnect the antenna lead and the multi-pin power/data harnesses at the rear of the unit.
- The serial number is printed on a barcode/sticker label on the top or side of the chassis, alongside the part number and supplier markings (Magneti Marelli or Continental on the Uconnect 5.0; a Mopar/supplier label on the base radio).
- Photograph the label up close in good light and double-check ambiguous characters such as 0/O, 1/I and 8/B before transcribing the serial.

Standard Serial Number Patterns on This Radio
The 2016 Ram ProMaster radio is manufactured by Harman or Continental, similar to other Stellantis vehicles. Typical serial number prefixes:
T00AM– Harman Uconnect units (primary prefix)T00BE– Continental unitsTM9– Earlier Harman production units (2014-2016)
Radio models for the ProMaster: RA1 (Uconnect 5.0" base), RA2 (Uconnect 4.3"), or a 7.0" Uconnect (upgraded option). Serial numbers are 14 characters alphanumeric.
Note Since the ProMaster is Fiat Ducato-based, some earlier models may have Fiat-sourced radio components. The serial format remains the same regardless.
Standard Serial Number Patterns on This Radio
The factory radios fitted to the 2016 ProMaster sit on the Italian Ducato-derived platform, so the prefix on the chassis label depends on which head unit was specified and which supplier built it - these patterns differ from the US-market Uconnect 8.4 RA3/RA4 prefixes used on Ram trucks of the era.
Uconnect 5.0 (RA2 / VP2-NA)
- The 5-inch touchscreen unit was supplier-built on the Italian/European platform, most often by Magneti Marelli or Continental.
- Continental-built units typically carry serials that begin with
A2CorA3Cfollowed by a long string of digits. - Magneti Marelli-built units use a different alphanumeric pattern that varies by production run; treat the printed chassis label as the authoritative reference rather than guessing.
Base AM/FM/CD/MP3 radio
- The base 1-DIN head unit usually carries a Mopar/supplier-style serial on its chassis sticker.
- The exact prefix varies by production batch and supplier, so transcribe what is printed on the label rather than assuming a pattern.
- Double-check ambiguous characters such as 0/O and 1/I before submitting the serial.
Understanding Unlock Issues with Your ProMaster
No code prompt means the radio hasn't been triggered. To trigger the lock: pull and reinsert the radio fuse, then turn ignition ON. The "ENTER CODE" prompt appears on startup.
The ProMaster radio label has both a serial number (14 chars, starts with T00AM, T00BE, or TM9) and a part number (P05... or 68...). Only the 14-character serial generates the unlock code.
If the label is hard to read (vans get dusty labels), photograph it with your phone and zoom in to read each character clearly. Reach out to support for a re-check if the code still fails.
After 3 wrong entries, the radio goes into a 60-minute lockout. The screen still shows "CODE" or "ENTER CODE" but blocks all input.
To clear: Keep ignition ON for a full 60 minutes without cutting power. Delivery vans used in daily service runs need to finish the full 60-minute wait in one sitting.
The serial label is on the rear or side of the radio unit. As these vans may use DIN-style radio mounts with release key slots, removing it can be quicker than in pickups.
Serial: 14 alphanumeric characters starting with T00AM, T00BE, or TM9. Don't use the part number (P... or 68...) — it does not generate a valid code.
ProMaster radios differ by trim: touchscreen models (5.0"/7.0" Uconnect) use the virtual keypad; non-touchscreen models use preset buttons 1, 2, 3, 4 to scroll each digit, then Enter/OK to confirm.
If you're unsure: look at the radio face. A touchscreen will respond to touch; a non-touchscreen will not.
