Factory Radios on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2014 model year is the start of the WK2 mid-cycle facelift, and the Grand Cherokee moved to the new Uconnect generation built on the Harman/Continental platform. Three head units were offered, separated by screen size and the presence of factory navigation.

1. Uconnect 5.0 / RA2 - standard on Laredo and entry trims. A 5-inch color touchscreen with capacitive shortcut keys flanking the screen, AM/FM/SiriusXM and Bluetooth, but no CD slot and no NAV button.
2. Uconnect 8.4A / RA3 - 8.4-inch landscape touchscreen, optional on Limited and standard on most Limited and Overland builds. Capacitive Radio/Media/Controls/Climate/Phone/Apps row along the bottom of the screen. No Nav tile on the home screen.
3. Uconnect 8.4AN / RA4 - same 8.4-inch hardware as the RA3 but with the Garmin-based navigation database enabled, plus HD Radio and SiriusXM Traffic/Travel Link. Standard on Summit and SRT, optional elsewhere. A Nav tile sits on the home screen.

Quick tell: 5-inch screen = RA2; 8.4-inch screen with no Nav tile = RA3; 8.4-inch screen with a Nav tile/map = RA4. The sales code is printed on the label on top of the radio chassis.

Find Your Serial Number on the Radio Display

2014 Grand Cherokees fitted with the 8.4-inch Uconnect support a hidden dealer/diagnostic menu that can show the radio's internal serial number on the touchscreen. Reading it on screen is much faster than dropping the unit out of the dash.

Uconnect 8.4A (RA3) and Uconnect 8.4AN (RA4)

1. Start the engine or place the ignition in the RUN position so the touchscreen powers up fully.
2. Press and hold the driver's temperature UP, temperature DOWN, and front DEFROST buttons together for around 7 seconds.
3. The hidden dealer/diagnostic menu should appear on the 8.4-inch display.
4. Open the entries that show radio information (typically the first options) - they list serial numbers, software/hardware revisions and similar identifiers.
5. Write down the full serial number exactly as shown, including any leading letters such as T00AM or TM9.
6. Exit the menu by pressing Done/Back or by cycling the ignition off and on.

Uconnect 5.0 (RA2)

For the smaller 5-inch base unit, on-screen retrieval of the radio's internal serial number is not consistently documented for the 2014 Grand Cherokee. If the dealer-mode shortcut does not bring up a serial entry on this radio, fall back to the chassis-label method described in the removal block.

View Serial by Pulling Out the Radio Unit

If the hidden menu does not show a serial number, or if the radio is fully locked at the CODE prompt and you cannot reach the dealer menu, the most reliable way to read the serial on a 2014 Grand Cherokee is to remove the head unit and read the printed label on its chassis.

Safety first

1. Switch the ignition fully off and remove the key.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery.
3. Wait at least a few minutes before touching wiring near the dash so airbag circuits can fully discharge.
4. Avoid pulling on yellow airbag-related harnesses while working behind the bezel.

4. Slide the head unit toward you and unplug the wiring harnesses and antenna lead from the back.

1. Look at the top, side, or rear face of the metal chassis for a white or silver thermal-printed label.
2. The label shows a part number, a barcode and a serial number - copy down the alphanumeric string that begins with letters such as T00AM, TM9 or similar.

Tips

1. Photograph the label rather than relying on handwriting - the characters can be easy to misread (O vs 0, I vs 1).
2. Reinstallation is the reverse: connectors back on, four screws home, then snap each bezel piece into place and reconnect the battery.
